I don't particularly care whether someone with ASPD and NPD traits calls themself a malignant narcissist or not, but in your Discord you write NPD as suspected and often (or at least more than once) mention you're not sure whether you have it. While in the same breath, confidently identifying as a malignant narcissist. To me, that just feels off because of the origins of the term. I hope my point of view is clear. Thank you for your time again.

Ill reply to both of your messages here I understand your point now, especially the distinction you're making between having medically recognized NPD traits and having NPD itself. The confusion came from my wording, because I realize saying I "suspect NPD" made it sound like my psychiatrist only recognized some narcissistic traits and wasn't considering NPD itself. To clarify my clinical situation, my psychiatrist has recognized NPD itself as a possibility in my presentation and has put it on the table alongside my ASPD. She is also the one who has described me as a malignant narcissist in the context of my clinical presentation. The uncertainty is more about how my narcissistic presentation relates to my ASPD and how my diagnoses are best conceptualized, rather than NPD never having been clinically considered. So yes, I do consider the term something I can reclaim in my own case, because I'm not using it on the basis of simply having narcissistic traits. It's terminology that has been applied to me in a clinical context by my own psychiatrist, alongside NPD being medically considered in my assessment. I also agree that "suspected NPD" was a poor way for me to phrase this publicly. I was trying to communicate that there is still some diagnostic uncertainty, but I ended up making it sound like I was only self-suspecting NPD. That's not what I meant. But if you meant to say that I cannot use the term at all because the terminology is outdated then fair enough, I won't, nobody's perfect, and my doctor can be inaccurate, but if it's regarding if I can reclaim it, then yes I can, if you wanna take this to dms feel free to! I won't have any issues talking this out with you and won't take anything in a bad note

Hi, thank you for the reply but I believe you missed my point. I'm not questioning whether you have NPD or not, my focus is on the term "malignant narcissist". This is an outdated and ableist term that specifically refers to someone with NPD, it quite literally means malicious narcissist. "she hasn't diagnosed me with it directly yet because there's also the possibility that some of those traits are part of my ASPD", "referring to the prominent narcissistic traits my psychiatrist has recognized"; Exactly, narcissist traits, which your psychiatrist is not sure if it is full NPD. Does that not mean you have medically recognized NPD traits, not NPD? "I'm not trying to claim that it's a separate diagnosis" brings me back to my point: Malignant narcissist refers to someone with NPD, not traits. If you yourself and your psychiatrist are not certain you have NPD (not NPD traits), then why are you identifying as a malignant narcissist, when it is not your term to reclaim? Again I mean this with respect, and I apologize if I sound hostile as I am interested in genuine discussion. I am also speaking as a person with NPD, so it is a personal topic for me.

Hello, why do you identify as a malignant narcissist if youโ€™re still unsure you have NPD and say you may not have it? I apologize if that sounds insensitive, Iโ€™m genuinely curious. I understand your therapist recognizes you as such, but malignant narcissist is a subtype of NPD not ASPD; It describes a person with severe NPD whom exhibits antisocial behavior or AsPD traits. Thank you for your time!!

Because my psychiatrist, not my therapist, also recognizes that my narcissistic traits could potentially be part of NPD. She does agree that NPD is something that could be on the table for me, but she hasn't diagnosed me with it directly yet because there's also the possibility that some of those traits are part of my ASPD. So when I say I suspect I have NPD, it's not just me self-diagnosing based on what I read online. It's also something my psychiatrist professionally suspects and has considered in my assessment, especially since ASPD and NPD is a high comorbidity chance. That's also why I use the term malignant narcissist in reference to myself. I'm not trying to claim that it's a separate diagnosis or that malignant narcissism is an ASPD subtype. I'm referring to the prominent narcissistic traits my psychiatrist has recognized while my exact diagnostic picture is still being worked out!!
